Jeremy Yohnka is here to discuss the Fourth of July parade that the scouts will hold. They will be collecting monetary donations for Feed the Need. They also want to do a Vet for a Vet and have veterans ride in corvettes. They will also do prizes for best golf cart, most patriotic, ect. They will work with the village for traffic control.

MIke Peters, Jim Wagner, Kenny Schrock, Eric Buzzard and Steve Donberger are on the festival committee. Max Painter jumping right in asking why this isn’t just a village thing. Steve is saying it was started by the American Legion and is sponsored by the legion and they can’t do that if it is under the village. Steve is saying the festival used to be called the American Legion St. Joseph Fall Festival. The legion gets the money from the carnival. Painter asks why the city doesn’t do the rest of it. Max is trying to bring up the point that the village actually does run the festival since Mike is basically in charge of it and it is held on village property but the village isn’t actually in charge of it for liability purposes.
Tami saying the village doesn’t want to run the festival but “I don’t think it would be a bad idea if it was under the umbrella of the village for liability purposes. It would be appointed people to the committee.”
Max saying the community council uses village resources, ect. like moving porta potties from other locations which is true and he feels a lot of people think the village runs it. Which is probably also true.
Wagner says no one is arguing that it shouldn’t be under the village.
I don’t think anyone in the general public actually cares about this or who is on the committee. Whether it’s under the village “umbrella or not” If someone gets hurt at the park they will sue the village regardless. It’s just the way things are.
Art saying there needs to be a lot of communication. “We need to be a part of the process and offer some enhancement.”
Wagner saying that they were invited to the Community Festival meeting and no one showed up. Terri Cummings saying they need advance notice not Monday for Tuesday.
My take on this is: This is going to be a mess if this goes under the village because they will try to micromanage it.
Good news: The village put the logo on their board desk. I actually really love this logo.
Survey: Do people really not know the legion does the carnival? I feel like everyone does know that. They also know they do the fish fry and that MIke Peters sets up the parade, ect.
Tami is saying the village doesn’t want to take over and control the committee at all.
Wagner asking how long the committee members have been on. Basically, they have all served for a decade or longer.
Art is asking if a t-shirt vendor wants to come to the festival who would they contact and that needs to be noted on a form.
I am going to help with the transparency. Get ready to meet the festival committee and learn what they all do. And honestly, Angela Page did an amazing job last year showing people who was in charge and who was doing what.
Art thinks the festival needs to grow.

Luke saying public works and a lot of other agencies took part in training on what to do if there is a tornado. I wanted to also say that Public works were also a vital part of the mock accident at the high school last week. They do so much for the town.
Good news, they are digitizing the 60s and 70s of the St. Joseph Record. Tami is thinking the village should donate. That’s a hard no from me on this. It’s a good cause but not one the village should donate to. Here’s a reminder about this project.
Dale Publications, publisher of the St. Joseph Record, Ogden Courier, and Homer Enterprise operated weekly newspapers in East Central Illinois from 1894 and 1980. Currently, all issues of the St. Joseph Record from December 8, 1894, to July 31, 1980, are in the Champaign County archives of the Urbana Free Library.
The Champaign County History Museum, working in partnership with the living descendants of the last owners/publishers, Robert and Barbara Butler, are raising money to digitize this important collection.
We are seeking to raise $30,000 to complete this project. Donations can be made tax-exempt to the Champaign County History Museum’s Digitization Fund. As $10,000 milestones are reached, portions of the collection will be digitized.
Good news, Adam Niemerg, who is the husband of my former Leader ad rep Trina, will be at village hall next Tuesday to answer questions. He is now a state rep.
