Lana Schott wants everyone in St. Joseph to have a Christmas tree.
The ten-year-old asked the St. Joseph Village Board to consider having a community tree during their July 26 meeting.
Schott said her plans call for a community tree in downtown St. Joseph that will be lit up the same day as the annual Christmas lights parade held in downtown. Schott said even those who couldn’t afford a Christmas tree could have one with a community tree.
“ It’s important because I think it would be good for our town and all the people who live here,” Schott said. “I think it would just bring a lot of joy around Christmas time to everybody.”
Schott said she hoped to fundraise for the project.
“I would raise money for it by getting donations and having bake sale fundraisers,” she said. “I have a bunch of ideas.”
The board approved the idea and said the village would work with Schott to make her idea a reality.
