Every week we ask a community member to tell us 10 interesting facts about themselves. This week it is Becci Powers the Co-Director of the Big Grove Girl Scout Summer Camp and the secretary at the Homer United Methodist Church.
• I grew up in northwest Indiana.
• I was an exchange student in France during the summer before my senior year of high school. I lived with a family in Normandy in the tiny village of Le Breuil-en-Auge and studied in Lisieux.
• My husband Ted and I have been married for twenty-five years and have two kids, Quinn and Katie.
• Using systematic desensitization, I overcame a severe fear of snakes because I did not want to pass my fear to my kids. That plan seems to have worked since my son’s first job involved occasionally handling snakes.
• I have spent over twenty years researching my family’s genealogy and am a volunteer for Find a Grave to help other people find their family. I have uploaded almost 5,000 pictures of gravestones over the years.
• Last year, my family adopted a stray cat who turned out to be pregnant. We kept all five kittens and their mother and added them to our household of two dogs and three fish tanks.
• I have had five concussions in my life.
• I am one of those people who unwillingly kills plants. Every plant I have ever purchased or been given has just died, even if I follow the care directions. I really just seem to have a black thumb.
• I do logic puzzles to relax.
• I love dark chocolate.
