In a normal snow event it can take seven to eight hours to plow the Village of St. Joseph.
This is not a normal snow event.
Assistant Public Works Superintendent Luke Fisher said residents can help village works by keeping cars off roads and out of cul de sacs.
Fisher said six public works employees work on snow removal.
Two run the big snow plows, while two more work on clearing cul de sacs. The final two work on clearing downtown sidewalks, parking lots, the sewer plant, the Public Works building lot, the rail trail and the village annex.
“Plus we have to haul all of the snow we pile up town,” Fisher said. “When we are done we put salt down.”
Public works is plowing today as long as it remains safe, Fisher said.
