The St. Joseph-Ogden High School volleyball team has alternated wins and losses during a busy stretch in its schedule the past week.
While SJO is still vying for its first Illini Prairie Conference win after losing its first two league matches, the Spartans do carry a 10-3 record into Thursday night’s Illini Prairie match at Pontiac.
Unity topped SJO 25-13, 25-21 on Tuesday night in St. Joseph in Illini Prairie play. Kennedi Burnett finished with six kills and seven digs to pace the Spartans against the unbeaten Rockets, while Becca Steinbach (13 assists, six digs) and Hannah Fox (eight digs) also chipped in.
Prior to Tuesday night, the Spartans went on the road and defeated Urbana 25-11, 25-12 in a nonconference match on Monday night.
Burnett continued her strong season with nine kills and seven digs, while Steinbach distributed 24 assists to go along with seven digs and two aces. Shayne Immke (six kills, two digs), Fox (eight digs) and Ashley Eldridge (five kills) made steady contributions.
Before the win at Urbana, host St. Thomas More defeated SJO 25-15, 25-21 last Thursday night in Champaign. Burnett managed five kills and five digs to along with three aces. Addie Roesch (three kills), Eldridge (three kills, two blocks), Steinbach (12 assists, three digs) and Fox (four digs) chipped in.
The match at STM was preceded by a quick 25-10, 25-7 home win against Danville in nonconference action last Wednesday.
Burnett compiled six kills, six digs and four aces, with Roesch (five kills, four digs) and Immke (four kills) also contributing.
