St. Joseph-Ogden Senior Peyton Crowe loves science.
She loves science so much she plans on majoring in it at
Parkland College where she is attending in the fall to continue her
athletic and academic career.
“I would like to major in some sort of health science,” she said, “but I have not chosen a specific career yet.”
The SJO female Student-Athlete of the Month for January said her favorite class at SJO is also science-related.
“My favorite class is Earth and Life Science because I have
always been interested in science,” she said. “Having Mrs. Kerner as my
teacher is helpful, and she always makes every class fun.”
Crowe, who scored her 1,000th career point as a Spartan earlier
this season, was nominated for Athlete of the Month by girls’
basketball coach Kevin Taylor.
Taylor said Crowe cares a lot about the game of basketball and works hard to be the best athlete she can be.
“Peyton definitely has enthusiasm for the game and is a leader
in encouraging her teammates that they ‘can do it’ whenever things might
get tough,” he said. “Peyton helps her teammates and respects her
coaches in practices and games.”
Crowe said the best thing about being a student-athlete at SJO
is the support they receive on the court and in the classroom at the
high school.
“My teachers and coaches continue to push me to be my best every day,” she said. “That is something I am very thankful for.”
Crowe said the most difficult part of being a student-athlete is
balancing her time in order to do the best she can academically and on
the court.
“Some nights we may have a game far away,” she said. “So I have to get my homework and studying done on the bus.”
Crowe said she was honored to be named Student-Athlete of the Month.
“I would like to thank my coaches for pushing me to be the best at all
times,” she said. “Their time and dedication has helped me become
successful.”
