Live at Heritage High School Board March 15, 2021

I am here at Heritage School Board. My dog ate my computer charger so I’m on chromebook instead of my trusty and dead Mac. #thisdogchewseverything #Imissmymac

Anyway, Heritage has 12 people on zoom right now in the audience. WOW. Seriously, that is some awesome participation.

THey are discussing RIFs. RIFs are reductions in force. Basically, no fault layoffs. They have a right to recall for one year and one day.

They are discussing the TIF agreement with the village. If I heard right the SUper said it was for $26,000??? I will have to double check that but wow!

They are discussing the TRS investment program now. #teacherretirment

They are discussing how many spectators are allowed at volleyball, ect.

Discussing the 5 Essential Survey. Davis saying its in the announcements. “Parents please take a few moments to complete the 5 Essential Survey for our district.  Please click on “5 Essentials Survey” above and then Parent Survey.”

Transitioned into  the challenges rural districts face with Internet. #myinternetisawfulinstjoe

Discussing how senior trip may be a day trip because we are still in a pandemic.

Nothing set in stone for graduation, Discussing doing it outside.

Discussing how they don’t need to stream board meetings because they are open and people can attend.

Why wouldn’t you stream it? It doesn’t hurt anything. A board member said they stream sporting events because people can’t attend.

I don’t understand this convo. It sounds like some board members don’t want to stream it because people have the option to attend and cant ask questions via zoom? One board member said he didn’t see the point of streaming the meetings.

Lots of boards do. Mahomet has a youtube channel.

Board member saying its just another layer of transparency.

Discussing how its hard to hear on zoom and how they dont want to invest in mics. The public comment part is weird to me. Other boards let people email and someone reads them. They are acting like that isn’t an option.

This entire convo was about the meet the candidates thing- I think. It is hard to hear.

But I am also going to point out that I find it odd for the board to act like they can’t fix the sound issue. I am going to guarantee there is a table mic somewhere in one of the two buildings that would solve the sound problem.

I think it’s great they post a public zoom link. even if it is hard to hear. WHy not let as many people view it as can?

I didn’t realize they did zoom until today when I saw a parent posted the link on Facebook. I would advertise that all over and show how transparent I was if I was on a board. But alas, I am not.

Discussing construction. Heritage always has really ambitious summer projects.

Projects include: HVAC in the Homer Multipurpose room and a wood floor.
Paving sidewalks at both buildings.
THe teacher’s work room at the Homer building and classroom upgrades at both buildings.
Installing new flag poles
Sand and repaint the wood floor in the gym
Landscaping at the Homer building

GOing into closed now.
