St. Joseph-Ogden Drama Director Chandler Dalton had a very happy birthday.
Dalton, who celebrated birthday on Oct. 24, spent the day with her drama students performing “Murder on the 518.”
More than 20 students participated in the production which was the first in almost a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have had to be extra careful in everything we do,” said Dalton.
The pandemic required students to adapt and explore new ways to perform and practice while following health and safety guidelines.
“The kids will all have to wear masks when they perform,” Dalton said.
The pandemic also changed who they performed to. Gone was the packed auditorium and instead the play was streamed online with only a few parents in attendance.
Dalton was inspired by the movie “Knives Out” to have the students perform a murder mystery.
“I love murder mysteries,” she said. “I actually let the kids vote on shows this year, and of the three they had to choose
from this one won.”
Dalton said preparing for a play in a pandemic was challenging.
“There was a lot of what if’s and ‘everything is up in the air’ since starting the fall play conversation with administrators last spring,” Dalton said.
However, there is still high hopes for the play and what is to come.
“I can’t describe how happy I am” said Dalton.
