CU Feed the need has even more food to distribute this week thanks to the St. Joseph Food Pantry.
The pantry has temporarily closed due to COVID-19 and had been giving patrons vouchers to use at the local IGA, leaving lots of food on their shelves.
The food was donated to CU Feed the need and will be handed out this Thursday at the St. Joseph United Methodist Church from 5 to 7 p.m.
CU Feed the Need volunteer Nada Cagle said COVID-19 has only affected their food distribution event slightly.
They now serve 40 to 45 families a month and distribute food as a drive-thru instead of inside the church.
The families they serve are mainly from St. Joseph but some travel from Oakwood, Muncie, Villa Grove and Champaign to receive food from the group. They have also added supplemental distributions, Cagle said. Those distributions include dairy and fresh produce provided by the Eastern Illinois Food Bank.
The church began holding food distribution events in 2019.
St. Joseph United Methodist Church is located at 205 N. Third Street in St. Joseph.
CU Feed the Need will distribute food on Aug. 27, Oct. 1, Oct. 29 and Dec. 3.
