St. Joseph Public Works is reminding residents that it is illegal to dump brush or garbage outside of the St. Joseph burn pile along Rt. 150.
Assistant Public Works Superintendent Luke Fisher said the village does have cameras at the dump site and license plate numbers of residents dumping items will be turned over to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Department.
Fisher also said residents are dumping brush at the Crestwood retention pond, which is also not allowed.
The village picks up brush during the first full working week of the month from April to November. Public works will pick up cut or broken branches from woody shrubs and trees, tree limbs not including trunks or stumps, yard waste such as weeds, leaves, dead flowers, plant and shrub trimmings.
Brush or Limbs shall be no larger than six feet in length and with a diameter no greater than four inches.
Material can be placed in a paper yard bag.
Residents should brush or paper yard bags in distinct piles within three feet of the curb prior to scheduled and announced collection week.
Brush piles need to have at least 18 inches between piles and should not be placed around mailboxes or other items.
