Used book sale

The St. Joseph Township-Swearingen Memorial Library has announced its Winter Used Book Sale. The book sale began Wednesday, Jan. 2 and will end Thursday, Jan. 31. The library is not charging specific prices, all items are for sale by cash donation. There is adult fiction, non-fiction, mysteries, science fiction, fantasy, horror, romance, adventure, biographies, crafts and cookbooks as well as children’s fiction, non-fiction and picture books. There may also be DVDs, videos, music cds, audiobooks and large print books. The sale will run during normal library hours, which are: Mondays and Wednesdays 1 p.m to 8 p.m; Tuesdays and Thursdays 9 a.m. to 6 p.m; Fridays 9 a.m to 7 p.m; Saturdays 9 a.m to 3 p.m. Please call to set up a time to bring in donations for the book sale. Klondike Derby

Just like the arctic conditions of Alaska, Boy Scouts will travel via snow sleds with their survival gear attached for a series of cold-weather challenges. The Klondike Derby competition is the ultimate winter sporting event including contests of strength, speed, and outdoor techniques. Scout patrols will be tested on survival shelter making, lashing rescue gear, and fire building in freezing conditions. The Klondike Derby is an amazing team-building experience for boys in grades 6 to 10.
