Girl Scout troop goes high tech

A St. Joseph Girl Scout Troop went high tech for their cookie sales.

Troop 2012 is using the internet to sell cookies.

Troop Leader Kate Clark said the troop made the decision to utilize the internet in the hopes that it would make it easier for people to purchase cookies.

“It’s convenient,” she said. “”It allows the girls to come to where you are if you are able to get out due to the weather. This way you can till support them.”

Clark said several residents have utilized the service.

“They told us ‘Thank you for just bringing them to our house,’” she said.

Cookies are $5 a box. This year the scouts are selling lemon-ups, trefoils, do-si-dos, samoas, tagalongs, thin mints and girl scout s’mores.

Scout Lizzie Clark, 10, said her favorite cookie was the samoas.

The scouts have also had several booths at area businesses.

Lizzie said she enjoyed selling cookies to the public.

“I like getting to be apart of the community,” she said. “And meeting new people.”

Scout Vivien Sturts, 11, said people should buy cookies because the proceeds support troop activities.

“And you get cookies,” she said.

Scout Izzy Turner, 10, said she recommended the tagalongs.

“Selling cookies is fun and we raise money to do stuff in the future,” she said.

Scout Ava Roberts, 10, said selling cookies has taught her skills she can use in the future including how to provide good customer service.

“It’s just fun,” she said.

Scout Rylee Krall, 10, agreed.

“We are helping people and having fun,” she said.

Scout Mary Evans Baker, 10, said she enjoys meeting people and helping the community.
“It helps our community and helps our troops,” she said.
