Dinner date: Fire Wives to hold fundraiser

The St. Joseph Stanton Fire Wife Tribe is hoping the community eats dinner out tonight.

The group is holding a fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse in Champaign.

If a dinner goer presents the fundraiser flyer, the restaurant will donate 10 percent of the total food purchase to the group.

Fire Wife Tribe member Vickie Reese said she hopes the community will support the fundraiser.

“We have plans in the works to give back to the community and the funds raised from this event will go to support that,” she said.

The group is co-chairing the Holly Jolly Kids Christmas Event on Dec. 14.

The event will include a pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the new station on Rt. 150.

Santa will arrive at 10 a.m. and the event will include cookie decorating, reindeer food making, coloring, Christmas caroling, and a secret Santa shop.

“The kids will get to have their time with Santa himself plus enjoy crafts, group time with other children and a secret Santa shop,” Reese said. “We are planning a pancake breakfast prior to Santa’s arrival as well, so parents bring the kids out, enjoy a breakfast you don’t have to prepare and share in the excitement of Christmas.”

Reese said the group is also hoping holding the fundraiser will help the community realize the group is established and available to help those in the community.

“We would like families to know if there is a struggle and you need help or know of a family that needs help, the Fire Wife Tribe is here,” Reese said. “We may not be able to do a lot, but sometimes just that extra something helps a ton.”

Reese said the group wants to help the community just like their husbands do.

“Our husbands help the community by responding to the calls of your loved ones in need and this is our way to help the community.”
