Talk of the Town… Halloween Parade edition

Every week we ask a St. Joseph official three questions. This week we talked to Mayor Tami Fruhling-Voges about her Halloween parade that is taking place on Saturday.

Why do you enjoy doing the Halloween parade and how did you get the idea for it?

Last year was the first year that I led the parade through the Village’s downtown and it was a great hit with the kids.  I thought it would be fun to do something with the children in the community that would be family-friendly and include the businesses in the downtown.  It’s always a good opportunity for the Village’s businesses to bring people out on a Saturday morning.  Getting a chance to have fun with the kids in the community and see their happy faces is always something that I look forward too!  Being able to dress up myself along with my little wiener dog to lead the children around town is one of my favorite things to do as Mayor!

What is your favorite Halloween memory?

My favorite part of Halloween as a child was getting the opportunity to dress up usually in something frilly.  My go-to costume was a gypsy princess.  Never anything scary!  We lived in the country and being able to go out with friends who lived in town to do some trick or treating was always something to look forward too.  I honestly never cared much about the candy (I’m picky!), but feeling like a town kid was always fun

How can businesses and kids participate?

Parents, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles bring your kiddos in costume on Saturday, October 26th to join us for the parade.  Meet at the Village Building at 10:15.  The parade will start promptly at 10:30 making a loop around the downtown and finishing back at the Village Building.  Back at the Village Building, we will have a special treat waiting for us and lots of fun things to do at the festival.  Looking forward to seeing lots of great costumes and smiling faces!
