Village to look at signage for downtown, parks

The Village of St. Joseph is considering adding wayfinding informational signs to the town.

Wayfinding informational signs provide directions, identify the most commonly visited areas of a town and simplify navigation for visitors.

The signs would be designed by graphic designer Katherine Howell for a cost of $350.

The signs would be designed to list local businesses for visitors to explore in town.

Village Administrator Joseph Hackney said he thought the signs should be placed in mounted cases with the signs on the Rail Trail and at parks in the town.

Mayor Tami Fruhling-Voges said that it was on her to do list for a long time and she thinks its important to let visitors, specifically those that use the Rail Trail, know what the businesses have to offer.

“Anything we can do to get people to stop here is a plus,” Furhling-Voges said.

“It’s another visual aid and I think it’s something we should do,” Trustee Art Raap said.

Trustees Max Painter and Terri Cummings mentioned that they would also like to see a QR code on the sign so visitors could look up information on their phones.

Hackney is going to work with Howell and bring more information and costs back to the board.
