Alayna Wagle plays Carlos in St. Joseph-Ogden’s “The Descendents”. We asked Alayna five questions before the final show today at 2 p.m. Here are the answers.
Describe Carlos.
I play Carlos and I would say that he’s just a little bit of a goofball. He’s never really all too bad, but he loves his friends and follows in their footsteps often. He’s very timid and scared of many things like dogs and sports, but ultimately learns the value of teamwork.
Was it challenging doing a play that people are so familiar with?
I’d say it was a bit difficult to do something so many people are familiar with, but it also helped us get a bit of a boost of joy because we know there will be people who will enjoy, even if it seems a bit cheesy to others.
What was the most challenging part of the production?
The most challenging part of production was the time crunch. Things felt a bit rushed together since we had to wait to use our new auditorium and then our costumes came a week before show and we ran with microphones for the first time the week of show. Other than that, figuring out how to change between my costumes in such a short amount of time was a big challenge for me! It was a bit stressful, but we ultimately pulled it off and made everything work!
What was your favorite part?
My favorite part was probably learning the choreography for our songs. I love dancing and it just brought me so much joy to be able to be so up and active in all these songs — even if it was stressful being in all those big dance numbers.
What can people expect from the play?
People can expect a bit of cheesiness, but it’s still fun and has a valuable lesson in the end! But most importantly, it’s super fun!!
