April 20, 2026 Local Stories in and Around St. Joseph, Illinois

Live at St. Joseph Village Board, Sept. 14, 2021

I am here..

It’s just me in the audience.

Meeting is being run by Terri Cummings.

We are moving right along to old business. Proposal for renting ball diamonds to NSA. They have researched for three weeks. “It is hard to place a value on our facility,” said Joe Hackney. Hackney asked NSA to propose how much they would pay. The proposal will be ready soon. Hackney said it could be as much as $400 per team.

Discussing closure of Busey. They are moving their accounts to Longview because Gifford only insures up to $250,000. It will take time to transition all their funds to Longview. They plan to fully transition by January 2022.

Does anyone know what the new busey building will be? Apparently, they will not sell to another bank but there has been interest in the building from a business owner.

Honorary Street recognition policy- a first review. They basically took it from other towns. Hackney urging them to put limiting principles on it. (I want a BJ Hackler Way on Lincoln. MAKE IT HAPPEN.)

Tiffany bringing up Marianne Dickerson who was honored with an honorary way. it’s on Main Street.

Discussing taking some streets off the table.

Discussing putting dates to be removed on the sign and limiting the amount per year.

(BJ Hackler Way on Lincoln… I am going to push this forever.)

Discussing paying for abatement of nuisance violations with the expectation of reimbursement.

Meaning, the village will go and clean it up and then the owner of the property will pay for it. (I think this is the house by the rail trail but they are being careful not to say where it is… It will cost $800 and their intention is to put a lien on the property.)

Pickleball is up at the sports complex. So go use it.

The bike repair station is up and running at Kolb Park.

Jim suggesting a moment of silence for BJ. (BJ Hackler Way on Lincoln)

They will have a long-term goal-setting meeting soon.

Dan Davis is discussing how Volo left some sort of connection box open and it is a hazard.

Jeff Van Buskirk is taking a leave of absence until mid-November due to taking real estate classes. Tami didn’t want him to step down.

They are in closed now. Discussing that property down by the rail trail and pending litigation.

They are out and the meeting is over.
