The St. Joseph Public Works Department is quarantining until the first of next week.
Mayor Tami Fruhling-Voges made the decision after two employees tested positive for COVID-19.
“By following the guidelines from CUPHD and IDPH this is the recommendation,” Fruhling-Voges said.
The public works employees will take a COVID-19 test on Sunday or Monday. If they are negative and have no symptoms they will be allowed back at work, Fruhling-Voges said.
When the employees return to work they will be required to socially distance and wear their mask when it is safe to do so, Fruhling-Voges said.
Fruhling-Voges said one employee has already been told they can return to work on Monday.
“So this where we are at for the moment, but will be monitoring the situation and making changes as need be,” she said.
Fruhling-Voges urged the public to keep their distance from village workers once they are back at work and if the public has an issue that needs to be addressed to a phone call to village hall would be preferable versus in-person contact.
