St. Joseph-Ogden FFA President Mallory Ames is planning on having a successful event on Feb. 22.
The FFA will be hosting their second auction and dinner and Ames said it will be even bigger than last year.
“Between the live and silent auction there will be around 100 items this year,” she said.
The items include everything from a 55” TV to high-end power tools to travel packages and personal beauty and wellness baskets.
“As well, we will once again have the very popular baked good items from local bakers,” Ames said.
FFA members and alumni worked diligently to collect the items for the auction which will support scholarships for students to attend conferences and conventions. Funds will also go to scholarships for senior FFA members who are pursuing further education, Ames said.
The event also includes a dinner that will feature homemade chicken and noodles with mashed potatoes and green beans. Dessert will be Houlihan’s brownies and ice cream.
Ames said the event is beneficial to the students because they are able to put their classroom knowledge to the test.
“This gives kids the opportunity to implement the skills they learn in the business and sales classes,” Ames said. “They also are able to learn how to organize and execute an event from start to finish. They advance their communication skills by retrieving donations and speaking with sponsors.”
New this year, the FFA has created a children’s auction to allow kids to be involved in the event.
“Halfway through the live auction all of the children will be invited to bid on their own items that are prepared solely for them,” Ames said. “Children will do all of the bidding, upon their parents’ discretion, in order to allow them to have some fun as well.”
The event takes place Feb. 22 at St. Joseph-Ogden High School.
Dinner will be available starting at 5 p.m., the silent auction begins at 6 p.m. and the live auction bidding will start at 7 p.m.
The SJO FFA will be posting items to their Facebook page before the auction so those interested in attending can have a sneak preview.
