Prolific goal scoring highlighted both of St. Joseph-Ogden High School’s soccer matches last week.
One went in favor of the Spartans. The other, not so much.
SJO picked up its first win of the season with a 5-1 home triumph against Schlarman on Sept. 2, but followed that up with a 10-1 loss at Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin last Thursday.
Senior Zac Seeley paced the Spartans (1-4-1) in the win against the Hilltoppers, recording three goals, with one in the first half and two in the second half.
Junior Wes Seeley and senior Brayden Grimsey also notched goals, both in the second half, to help SJO pull away from Schlarman after both teams played to a 1-1 tie in the first half. Freshman Hunter Ketchum made two saves in net for SJO.
SJO trailed 9-1 at halftime in its eventual loss to BHRA, with junior Mason Behrens netting the lone goal for the Spartans.
SJO is slated to return to the field at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a home match against Fisher/Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley before they take part in the two-day Cornjerker Classic this Friday and Saturday in Hoopeston.
