On Feb. 28, Iota Sigma has a way to help you escape the winter blues.
The philanthropic sorority is holding a Ladies Night Out in the basement of the St. Joseph United Methodist Church.
The event will run from 5 to 7 p.m. and will feature women-owned vendors and local artists. Door prizes will be given throughout the evening.
If you are interested in being a vendor contact Psiote46@yahoo.com.
Iota Sigma is a chapter of a National Sorority that works to help the communities where they are located. Iota Sigma, chartered in June 2006, is the St. Joseph Chapter of Psi Iota Xi – a philanthropic sorority striving to hold music, literature, and the arts in high esteem.
This group of women in St. Joseph help to fund the St. Joseph Food Pantry, make contributions to the SJO Art Program, gift the school music programs in the area, and help to sponsor the summer reading programs at the St. Joseph Swearingen Memorial Community Library, the Homer Township Community Library, and the Paxton Carnegie Library – towns where members reside. Their main fund raising is to make and sell cheeseballs in the fall.
Other projects have included Angel Trees during Christmas, the Food Pantry, Fair Hope, and national Projects including the Galludet University Dance Scholarship, Carle Foundation Cleft Palate Research for Children, the National Stuttering Research Program, camp scholarships to Special Summer camps for children, and donations to the Riley Children’s Hospital Endowment Fund Psi Iota Xi Research Chair. The National Organization of Psi Iota Xi was founded in 1897 in Muncie.
The group currently has chapters in five Midwest states; Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky and Ohio.
Annually they donate approximately 1 million dollars to the various charities we support in addition to the many hours donated to local causes and needs.
